SUZUKI INSTRUMENTAL TEACHER TRAINING PRIMARY

Prerequisite Entrance Recital

All applicants must complete an Entry Recital (The recital need not be from memory, but in the case of strings, flute and voice, must be accompanied) The application form can be found here.

Violin: Bach Aminor Concerto (Complete)
Viola: Concerto in C (1st and 2nd Mvts) Bach/Cassadeseus
Cello: Popper Gavotte in D or Saint-Saens Allegro Appassionato and a contrasting piece of
choice (Grade 7 or higher)
Flute: Bach Suite in Bminor (without overture) or two contrasting movements from
Mozart D major Concerto.
Guitar:Two contrasting works (Grade 7 or higher)
Piano: Bach Italian Concerto (Complete) or 2 contrasting works, one of which to be a movement
of a classical sonata.
Voice: An audition video tape. (Contact Laura Bernay 9380 4704 for details).

Course Outline

Item 1 PRIMARY PEDAGOGY
34 hours Books 1-4 Either individual or shared
Additional private lessons may be required at discretion of Teacher Trainer

Item No. 2 EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION MODULE

Item No.3 16 HOURS LECTURES

Item No.4 ASSESSMENT OF PERFORMANCE OF BOOKS
Performance from memory of Books 1 -4
Final recital - Performance of selected pieces from Books 1-4

Item No. 5 PRESENTATION OF STUDENTS
Present a lesson of a student at primary level either by video or live presentation at 6 monthly intervals in first year of teaching
Present two group class lessons at pre-twinkle & Primary level
Final assessment: Present performance recital of 3 students at
Primary level performing Twinkle variations and 2 or 3 other pieces.
2 students at Book 3 level - 2 pieces at Book 3 level other piece either Book 2 or 4

Item No. 6 OBSERVATION
Observation of at least 20 private and 20 group lessons for each year of course (attendance at workshops required)

Item No. 7 ESSAY
Philosophy of Suzuki Method (1500-2500 words)
Summarize handouts

Item No.8 PERFORMANCE PRACTISE as per schedule

Item No. 9 MATERIALS FOR COURSE
Observation Diary, Course record book and photocopying
Other books (May be purchased from STEAA (WA) Inc.)

Item No. 10 MEMBERSHIP
Membership of STEAA (WA) Inc. and Working with Children clearance There is a maximum of 3 years to complete the course. (Minimum 18 months)
